Exclamatory Sentences

Today's Summary


Imperative Sentences are used to say to somebody to do something or not to do something. These are of two types :

  1. Direct Imperative Sentences
  2. Indirect Imperative Sentences

01. Direct Imperative Sentences

These sentences directly start with Main Verb (I form) and these are a direct request / order / command to the Listener.

Affirmative Sentences

  • Do it.
  • Keep the environment clean.
  • Plant at least one tree every year.
  • Make him feel happy.
  • Try to understand.

Negative Sentences

  • Don't do it.
  • Don't spoil the environment.
  • Don't cut trees.
  • Never make anybody feel sad.
  • Don't bother me.

02. Indirect Imperative Sentences

When we order / request the listener but he does not perform the action himself but it is to be performed by someone else, the order / request / command will be an Indirect Imperative Sentence. These sentences begin with 'Let'.

  • Let me think.
  • Let him speak.
  • Let us (Let's) go.
  • Let's take some rest.
  • Don't let the students go out.

03. Making Passive Voice

  1. Do it.
    Let it be done.

  2. Open the door.
    Let the door be opened.

  3. Keep the environment clean.
    Let the environment be cleaned.
    The environment should be kept clean.

  4. Arrest the criminals.
    Let the criminals be arrested.
    The criminals should be arrested.

  5. Consult a doctor.
    Let a doctor be consulted.
    You are advised to consult a doctor.
