Tenses | Active Voice

Today's Summary


Tense is a grammatical term which tells us the [timing] and the [nature] of the verb. It is only associated with the verb not with the subject or with the object. Mainly, tenses are of three types :

  1. Present Tense
  2. Past Tense
  3. Future Tense
These main types tell us the timing of the verb. Each main tense is further classified into [FOUR sub-types]. These tell us the nature of the verb.
  • Indefinite/Simple Tenses
  • Continuous/Progressive Tenses
  • Perfect/Complete Tenses
  • Perfect-Continuous Tenses

Active Voice

Active Voice is a Subject-Oriented sentence. It gives us the information about subject. We should keep these facts in our mind while making any Active Voice sentence.

  1. Presence if [Subject] in an Active Voice sentence is compulsory.
    He has come.

  2. Both [Subject and Object] too may present in Active Voice.
    They are playing cricket.

  3. [Personal Pronouns] are used as the subject.
    I, We, You, They, He, She, It

  4. [Indicative Pronouns] are used as the object.
    me, us, you, them, him, her, it

  5. [Subject-Verb Agreement] rule is followed in Active Voice.
    - I am going.
    - He is going.
    - They are going.
